The Coordinator, Amnesty Programme, Prof. Charles Quarker Dokubo, has been removed from his position by President Muhammadu Buhari.
A statement issued on Thursday, August 27, 2020, by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, said the sacking of Mr Dokubo was “with immediate effect.”
However, the presidency did not give any reason for the ejection of the coordinator from office, it only said the removal of Mr Dokubo was approved by Mr Buhari.
It further said the President has approved the appointment of Mr Milland Dixion Dikio, as the new administrator of the Amnesty Programme.
Mr Dikio retired from the Nigerian armed forces as a colonel and his appointment to the position is with effect from Friday, August 21, 2020, the statement from the presidency said.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Colonel Milland Dixion Dikio (rtd) as Interim Administrator (Amnesty Programme) with effect from August 21, 2020.
“This followed the President’s approval of the disengagement of Prof. Charles Quarker Dokubo from Office as the Coordinator, Amnesty Programme with immediate effect,” Mr Shehu said.
He further said in the statement that, “Prof. Dokubo has been directed to hand over all official matters to the most senior officer of the programme.”
“President Buhari appreciated the services of Prof. Dokubo to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and wished him the best in his future endeavours,” the statement noted.
