Nigerian Idol: Double Elimination, Divas and Divos Reign Supreme

Nigerian Idol Vivas and Divos Night

Emotions ran high on Nigeria Idol last Sunday as viewers witnessed a double elimination. Gracia and David Garland’s journeys in the competition came to an end.

However, the night wasn’t all about saying goodbye. In case you missed it, here’s a rundown of the night.

Divas & Divos Reign Supreme: Following the “Divas and Divos” theme, the contestants brought their A-game, channelling their music legends. Each contestant shared their personal “Diva and Divo moments” from the competition, adding a heartfelt touch.

Chioma set the stage ablaze with a powerful rendition of Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary,” embodying the diva spirit and electrifying the audience. Stevie followed suit, bringing his dramatic flair to the stage with a captivating rendition of the Jackson 5’s “Who’s Loving You.” He took the audience on a journey, proving his versatility and talent.

Mira Clear kept the soulful vibes flowing with a classic Mary J. Blige selection, “Be Without You.” Her performance not only captivated the audience but also earned her high praises from the judges, and Lady Ruth raised the bar even further, channelling her inner Mariah Carey with a stunning rendition of “My All.”

Lammy brought the energy with a captivating performance of Bryan Adams’ “Everything I Do,” while Chima showcased his impressive vocal control with Stevie Wonder’s “Lately.”

Mixed Reviews for Maio: The night wasn’t all smooth sailing though, as Maio’s rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Heal the World” received mixed reviews. While the audience sang along, the judges offered constructive criticism. Omawumi advised Maio to choose songs that better showcase his strengths, while 9ice critiqued it as one of his weakest performances.

Surprise Farewell Performances: In a surprising turn of events, the evicted contestants got a moment to shine. Both Gracia and David Garland delivered one last performance each. David Garland offered a sentimental rendition of Celine Dion’s “I Surrender,” while Gracia wowed everyone with her powerful vocals on Patti LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade.” Interestingly, the judges deemed her performance the best of the entire night. Talk about a bittersweet ending for Gracia.
