One Tuesday, a famous Lagos socialite and filmmaker, Mr Seun Egbegbe, was accused of stealing some iPhones at the popular Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos.

The report dominated the blogosphere yesterday and pictures of the filmmaker with bloodied face as a result of mob action on him filtered the internet also.

According to reports, the Ebony Films Productions boss ‘stole’ nine iPhones valued at over N2 million.

But his spokesman, BK Media Concepts, has issued a statement concerning the issue, insisting Mr Egbegbe never stole the high-end phones as alleged.

“Seun Egbegbe was at Keelcech shop, located at No 9, Medical Road, Ikeja, to purchase some phones. After making his order from the shop sales rep and walking towards his car to pay up the balance of the phones, the sales rep claimed he was bolting away with the phones, which is not true,” the statement issued on Wednesday morning said.

The statement further noted that “it is a known fact that Mr Seun Egbegbe can afford to buy thousands of iPhones if he wants to” and asked “why would he [want to] steal them?” pointing out that “he is a philanthropist, who is blessed by God.”

“The issue has been settled amicably by the parties (involved in the case,” the publicist said in the statement.

“[We thank] the Nigeria Police Force, media and concern fans [all over the world] for their support,” the statement concluded
