Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Plc, Mr Segun Agbaje, on Friday, revealed that the bank recorded over N1 trillion transactions via the its 737 payment and service delivery platform.
The 737 platform, a USSD-based service delivery channel, was introduced by the pan-African financial institution to make banking easy for customers through the use of mobile phones without necessarily making use of data.
When the platform was launched, many Nigerians embraced it and applauded the bank for the laudable innovation.
Speaking at the 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of GTBank in Lagos, Mr Agbaje noted that, “Within a year of the introduction of the service, the bank recorded an uptake of over three million customers, with over N1 trillion in transactions on the platform.”
However, he said the bank would continue to make its banking processes and touch points simpler, easier and faster, irrespective of customers’ location.
Also during meeting, Chairman of GTBank, Mrs Osaretin Afusat Demuren, assured shareholders that the bank was well positioned to leverage opportunities that existed in the industry and deliver strong and sustainable returns.
She attributed the growth during the review period to steady increase of subsidiaries across Africa, saying GTBank Gambia and GTBank Sierra Leone emerged the most profitable banks in their respective countries.
