It is a dark day in the world of football as one of its legends, Diego Maradona, breadth his last on Wednesday following a heart attack.
The Argentine footballer, who mesmerised the world with his dribbling skills for years, died some days after he had a brain surgery in his home country.
Recall that a few days after celebrating his 60th birthday in November, the former coach of Argentina was admitted into La Plata clinic after complaining of low spirits and fatigue.
Checks done by doctors at the medical facility indicated that there was a blood clot on his brain. A surgery was carried and after the completion, he was discharged, though still under surveillance.
It was learned that on Wednesday morning, Maradona suffered a cardiac arrest at a private neighbourhood near Tigre, northern Buenos Aires and efforts by paramedics to revive him failed.
The national team of Argentina today confirmed the demise of their former manager in a post on its official Twitter account, saying, “You (Maradona) will be eternal in every heart of the football world.”
Maradona captained the Argentine team which won the country’s second World Cup in 1986, beating West Germany in the final in Mexico.
