Uber Drivers Protest in Lagos

Some drivers under the Uber platform on Monday, May 08, 2017, staged a peaceful protest in Lagos, demanding for reversal of the fare prices recently slashed by management of the transport firm.

The demonstrators gathered at the National Stadium in Surulere from where he marched to Costain and later Lagos Island.

They described the recent 40 percent slash in the prices of fares as uncalled.

Due to the development, the Uber drivers refused to work until the management return to status quo.

The four major issues the drivers are not happy about include the alleged 40 percent reduction in fares, 25 percent commission charged by Uber, absence of riders’ verification as well as safety and insurance of drivers/partners.

The protesters carried placards conveying different messages including “Uber is a scam,” “Don’t suffer Peter to pay Paul. Uber, 10% discount or go home,” and “Paramount, a life lost is total injustice to all” among others.

As at the time of filing this report, Business Post could not reach officials of Uber for comment.
