Apprehension has gripped Lagos after authorities discovered more than 20 illegal stores allegedly producing and selling counterfeit alcoholic beverages at the BBA Trade Fair Complex in Ojo, Lagos State.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) said its Investigation and Enforcement Directorate carried out the raid on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at Zamfara Plaza, along the Badagry Expressway, following credible intelligence.

According to the agency, operatives found suspects blending and counterfeiting popular alcoholic beverage brands, revalidating expired and unsafe drinks for resale, and stockpiling banned imported products.

Two suspects were arrested during the operation, while the products seized and evacuated were valued at more than N2 billion.

NAFDAC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious manufacturing, product revalidation or sales activities through its official complaints line, 0800-1-NAFDAC (0800-1-623322).

The development has raised worry among Nigeria about products they consumed, with many taking to social media to express their displeasure.

“All I asked for, please do more as the festive season approaches. RAID and imprison,” an X User @Rxbremen wrote.

Some others called for stricter punishments for the people found guilty, with many calling for the closure of the trade fair to allow for thorough investigation.
