Avanti Repositions Business With Multi-Orbit Strategy

Avanti Communications has announced a significant strategic repositioning from an operator of satellites in geostationary orbit to a global multi-orbit provider of fully integrated connectivity services and solutions.
As a result of greater convergence between terrestrial and non-terrestrial connectivity, the satellite industry has grown rapidly over the past few years. While this has given customers more choice and flexibility, it has also driven complexity.
The new strategy will help Avanti better respond to the diverse needs of its customer base, while continuing to deliver high-performance solutions on a global scale.
Avanti’s customer-centric approach is built on a “customer pull” vs. “technology push” model, boosting choice, value and the provision of tailored solutions for customers with even the most challenging of requirements. Avanti’s customers span a range of industries, including defence, aero and maritime, rural communities and schools, satellite operators, governments and enterprises.
Elaborating on new strategy, Toby Robinson, Chief of Strategy and Business Development at Avanti, said, “The needs of our customers are evolving, and we need to be led by this. It is our job to provide the expertise and experience to create and build a custom solution, considering LEO, MEO and GEO. Unlike other providers, we start with the customer first, rather than the technology, which will continue to give us a competitive edge in this rapidly growing and fast-moving industry.”
Avanti is in talks with a leading low-earth orbit (LEO) operator to procure capacity and will also be investing heavily in its managed services capabilities.
Kyle Whitehill, CEO of Avanti, said: “The space industry is no longer separate to telecoms. Demand for capacity is becoming increasingly competitive and, as we see elsewhere in the telecoms industry, value will inexorably move down the chain from raw connectivity to services and solutions. Rather than investing in new satellites and building and extending our coverage and capacity, we are prioritising strategic partnerships and our service offering so that we can remain agile and responsive to industry trends and the needs of customers – all while maintaining our high performance, reliability and quality of service.”
To coincide with this announcement, Kyle Whitehill, will be speaking at AfricaCom on Tuesday 14th November at 11.55am, where he will discuss the impact of this major milestone.
Headquartered in London, Avanti operates across seven offices in the UK, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Turkey and Cyprus.

“Our partnership with NNPC goes beyond payments. It represents a shared vision to redefine the fueling experience in Nigeria.
“The NR Fuel App is a clear example of how technology can transform a routine, everyday task into something smarter, faster, and more personal,” the Managing Director of Industry Ecosystems (Interswitch Indeco), Ms Chinyere Don-Okhuofu, said.

Non-Alcoholic Drink Makers Knock WHO Over Call for SSB Tax Hike

By Modupe Gbadeyanka
Manufacturers of non-alcoholic beverages across the global under the umbrella of the International Council for Beverages Associations (ICBA) have criticised the World Health Organization (WHO) for its latest call for an increase in the taxation of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs).
In a statement by its Executive Director, Ms Kate Loatman, the group noted there is not fact-based evidence to show that taxing sugar-sweetened beverages has improved health outcomes or reduced obesity in any country.
“It’s deeply concerning that the World Health Organization (WHO) continues to disregard over a decade of clear evidence showing that taxing sugar-sweetened beverages has never improved health outcomes or reduced obesity in any country.
“In fact, the WHO itself has repeatedly concluded that such taxes are not the best or most effective measures to address these complex issues,” Loatman was quoted as saying in the statement.
She stated that the beverage industry continues to advance collaborative and innovative solutions like broadening access to low and no-sugar beverage options, supporting transparent labelling, and upholding the highest standards for responsible marketing.
According to her, “By working together on these proactive measures, we can deliver real, measurable progress toward global health priorities.”
ICBA is an international nongovernmental organization established in 1995 that represents the interests of the worldwide non-alcoholic beverage industry.
The members of ICBA include national and regional beverage associations, as well as international beverage companies that operate in more than 200 countries and territories and produce, distribute, and sell a variety of non-alcoholic sparkling and still beverages, including soft drinks, sports drinks, energy drinks, bottled waters, flavoured and/or enhanced waters, ready-to-drink teas and coffees, 100% fruit or vegetable juices, nectars and juice drinks, and dairy-based beverages.
