Subscribers of 9mobile, an innovative and customer-friendly telecommunication company, can now seamlessly link their SIM cards with their National Identification Number (NIN) without moving an inch.

In a statement to the media, the firm said its customers can verify and update their NINs instantly through an online self-service NIN update portal www.9mobile.com.ng/nin designed for the purpose.

Recall that earlier this week, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) directed GSM service providers in the country to disconnect any mobile number not linked with NIN from December 31, 2020.

Due to the short notice and duration for the implementation of this sudden new policy, two weeks, telcos devised a creative method to capture the millions of mobile subscribers in the country.

This gave birth to the online self-service NIN update portal created by 9mobile for easy linking of NIN to SIM-card registration of its customers.

So, with this unique platform, 9mobile subscribers do not need to physically visit any of its experience centres across the country to submit and verify their NIN.

Apart from this innovative and intelligent portal, 9mobile has also made available a USSD option *200*8# that allows subscribers to check the matching status of their NIN to their SIM and subsequently submit it for backend verification and mapping.

According to the Chief Information Officer at 9mobile, Mr Ibikunle Jimo, 9mobile, as a customer-centric telecoms company, always looks out for the convenience of its subscribers by leveraging innovation.

“Immediately, we received the NCC directive to link all SIMs with the respective subscribers’ NIN; we challenged our IT and network teams to develop a seamless and stress-free solution for our customers.

“Here is the result. This solution is the differentiator for us since our customers do not need to wait endlessly for the NIN link up with their SIM cards.

“This is what it means to use innovation to solve societal challenges for our customers. This solution is the power of the innovation etched in our DNA.

“We urge our customers to enjoy what we are known for by riding on the back of our innovative solution to verify their NIN without any stress whatsoever,” Mr Jimo said.

The IT expert, who stressed that 9mobile would always ensure that all its subscribers have access to options that best suit them, added that in addition to the intelligent portal and USSD string options, 9mobile experience centres have also been equipped to render NIN matching support for walk-in customers.

  1. Your platform to link my SIM to NIN is the most difficult of all Networks. Even a dial of your *996# is often ended with “Unfinished”. I got my NIN linked to other by a simple dial code. Yours is not getting through. Very poor .

  2. 9 mobile is not serious…same thing happened to me severally…Tried severally to use the the online portal and the ussd code still unable to link NIN with my 9mobile. Don’t know what to do.
