Beta Glass Tops Gainers’ Log as Stock Market Gains 0.13%

Shares of Beta Glass rose by N6.10 or 9.55 percent on Friday to close at N70 per unit against N63.90 each it ended on Thursday. This made the company lead the gainers’ chart at the last trading day of the week.

Beta Glass was among the 16 equities that appreciated on a day the market breadth ended negative with 20 price losers. At the day’s session, a total of 14 stocks closed flat.

Also, on the share risers’ log yesterday were Seplat, which gained N5 to close at N605 per share, Dangote Cement, which improved by N5 too to end at N179.90 per unit. Julius Berger appreciated by N1.50 to settle at N21.50 per unit, while Lafarge Africa increased by 30 kobo to finish at N17.50 per unit.

On the losers’ side, MTN Nigeria topped the table after losing N2 to close at N125 per share, while Unilever Nigeria dropped N1.90 to end at N17.55 per unit.

Dangote Cement depreciated by 75 kobo to close at N13.90 per share, NCR Nigeria declined by 34 kobo to trade at N3.31 per unit, while FBN Holdings fell by 20 kobo to close at N7.30 per share.

Yesterday, the trading volume and value went down by 6.28 percent and 54.43 percent respectively as shares worth N3.5 billion exchanged hands in 3,852 deals in contrast to the 196.9 million equities valued at N7.7 billion transacted in 2,915 deals on Thursday.

Shares of GTBank dominated the trading session, with a total of 34.3 million units bought and sold at N1.1 billion, while NAHCO transacted 15.9 million equities worth N38.3 million.

Transcorp exchanged 15.1 million valued at N15.6 million, Chams traded 11.5 million equities for N3.9 million, while Zenith Bank traded 11.0 million units for N242.2 million.

Business Post reports that the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) appreciated by 0.13 percent on Friday on the back of the 2.16 percent growth posted by the insurance sector and the 1.17 percent appreciation printed by the industrial goods index. However, the consumer goods sector fell by 0.92 percent, while the banking index declined by 0.37 percent, with the energy sector closing flat.

Also, All-Share Index (ASI) the increased during the session by 37.55 points to close at 29,628.84 points, while the market capitalisation increased by N20 billion to settle at N15.262 trillion.
