The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called on the federal government to reopen the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depot located in the Emene area of Enugu State.

This call for action was made by new Caretaker Committee Chairman of IPMAN, Enugu NNPC Depot Community, Mr Chinedu Anyaso, during the inauguration of the new leadership of the branch in Enugu on Tuesday.

Mr Anyaso decried the poor living condition of people living in the South East, saying one of the ways to alleviate the situation was to ensure that the depot was up and running.

“President Muhammadu Buhari administration has constantly reiterated its resolve to create jobs and lift several Nigerians out of poverty and hunger.

“One of the best ways to achieve that goal in the South-East and its environs is to revitalise the Enugu NNPC Depot because it has the potential to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

“Such move will also roll back crimes substantially in the zone and beyond,’’ he said.

The new chairman also used the opportunity to seek the reconstruction of deplorable roads in the South-East, stating that the current state of roads in the region has put residents under untold hardships, including insecurity and economic challenges.

On the part of the marketers, Mr Anyaso said under his leadership, he would ensure that there was even and steady supply of petroleum products in the zone and its environs throughout the yuletide at the official price.

He praised the intervention of the Enugu State Governor, Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on the recent leadership crisis that had rocked the union and promised that IPMAN would continue to build on the peace that resulted from the governor’s intervention.

He then appealed to members and various governments of the seven states under the coverage of Enugu Depot Community to support the new committee to succeed.
