The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has disclosed that it would release the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) figures of Nigeria in the second quarter of 2019 on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
This information was announced by the Statistician General of the NBS, Mr Yemi Kale, on Thursday, August 29, 2019, via a post on his Twitter page.
“Q2 2019 GDP to be published in line with data calendar on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 by 8am,” the nation’s chief statistician said in the tweet.
Business Post reports that in the first quarter of this year, the economy grew by 2.01 percent, higher than 1.89 percent recorded in the first quarter of 2018.
However, the Q1 2019 growth rate of Africa’s largest economy was lower than the 2.38 percent achieved in the fourth quarter of last year.
Observers said they are not expecting much improvement in the second quarter of this year as a result of the fears nursed by investors after the 2019 general elections in the first quarter of the year due to the decision of candidate of the opposition in the poll to challenge the outcome.
