Ilisan High School, Ogun State, has emerged as the winners of the second edition of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) secondary schools quiz competition.
The competition took place over the weekend at the Ilisan Town Hall in Ogun State and had six schools vying for the ultimate position.
The schools were Al-Lateef College, Isanbi Comprehensive High School; Highbrow College; Isanbi Model College; Dee Unique International School; and Ilisan High School.
The second position was occupied by Dee Unique International College and the third position went to Isanbi Model College.
The event was graced by the First Lady of the State; Mrs Bamidele Abiodun; Oba of Ilisan; President CIIN, Mr Muftau Oyegunle; Mr Tunde Hassan Odukale – Leadway Assurance, Director-General, Mrs Abimbola Tiamiyu and Rector College of Insurance and Financial Management, Mrs Yeside Oyeyayo.
The president of the body, Mr Oyegunle, explained that the CIIN quiz competition was borne out of the organisation’s desire to enlighten and introduce young minds to the amazing world of insurance, stressing that the initiative is also aimed at promoting the significance of insurance in our daily lives, community development, poverty alleviation, economic advancement and world peace.
“Insurance ensures that we have adequate safety nets against the misfortunes of life by providing compensation for its customers that enable them to survive the adversities of life.
“Hence, insurance provides us with a means of protecting ourselves and our families from unexpected but possible financial losses while also enhancing the capacity to build wealth,” he said.
According to him, the competition was designed to create awareness amongst the young adults, who are considered the future of the insurance industry, and to educate them about the importance of Insurance as a service and the career opportunities it offers to students.
Mr Oyegunle noted that the competition was not all about winning but also about having fun while learning more about insurance.
