Director General of the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation, Otunba Gbenga Daniel otherwise known as OGD, has announced his exit from active politics.
The former Governor of Ogun State, who is a chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), announced his retirement from partisan politics in a letter to his party’s national chairman, Mr Uche Secondus.
Mr Daniel explained that he took this decision so as to focus on other personal things.
“This is to inform you of my intention to resign from active and partisan politics with effect from today, the 14th day of March 2019,” the former Governor said in the letter to Mr Secondus on Thursday.
According to Mr Daniel, “My decision in this regard is entirely personal to me.”
In the February 23, 2019 presidential election, Mr Daniel worked for the PDP and its candidate, Mr Atiku Abubakar. However, at the March 9, 2019 governorship poll in Ogun State, he worked against candidate of his party, Mr Buruji Kashamu. Instead, he supported his longtime friend, Mr Dapo Abiodun, of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
