Borno Governor Gives Nigerian Refugees in Chad N50m

The Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has given the sum of N50 million to families of Nigerian refugees in Chad.

The Governor gave this money when he visited refugees living in the country. About 5,000 families at the Internally Displayed Persons (IDPs) camps in Chad received N10,000 each.

Mr Zulum was ferried on Tuesday through the Nigerian side of the Lake Chad to meet Borno citizens taking refuge at the Darsalam refugee camp in Baga Sola, a border community in the Republic of Chad. While there, he inquired from the leadership of the refugees the challenges they go through.

During the visit, the Governor had a crucial meeting with the Chadian Governor of Lake Province, Mr Fadul Tijjani, to discuss how to make things better for the refugees.

According to him, efforts are being made by his administration, federal establishments and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to repatriate the refugees to safe resettlements in Borno.

He expressed confidence that a permanent solution would be reached very soon to safely take the refugees back to Nigeria. He commended the Chadian government for the support and said the war on terrorism would be won.

The Governor was accompanied on the visit by the Nigerian Ambassador to Chad, Mohammed Dauda and the Chadian Ambassador to Nigeria, Abakar Saleh Chachaimi.

Several persons have been displaced by Boko Haram sect, who are against Western education in Nigeria. The terrorists, for several years, have waged war against the Nigerian government.
