By Modupe Gbadeyanka

Reports reaching us from Abuja, the seat of power, indicate that President Muhammadu Buhari for the umpteenth time is absent at the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The meeting reportedly kicked off at about 11am on Wednesday and the President was not sighted, leaving the Vice President, Mr Yemi Osinbajo, to preside over it.

This is the third consecutive time Mr Buhari has not presided over the meeting, further fuelling speculations that his health might have deteriorated, making him unable to carry out some of his constitutional duties.

Though the Presidency has claimed the President is still able to carry out his statutory duties.

There were hopes that the Mr Buhari would attend today’s meeting because yesterday, he met with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Abubakar Malami, and the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr Maikanti Baru, at his office in Abuja.

On Tuesday, wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, informed Nigerians that her husband’s health is not as bad as some are insinuating.

On Monday, former National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Bisi Akande, said he wept when the President did not attend his grandson’s wedding on Saturday.

He accused some elements in the cabal of trying to capitalise on the President’s health to cause problems in the country.

He urged Nigerians to pray for Mr Buhari because his health was taking its toll on the nation.
