I’m Not Under Pressure to Resign—Osinbajo

Image

By Modupe Gbadeyanka

Nigeria’s Acting President, Mr Yemi Osinbajo, has denied speculations that he is under huge pressure to resign from office.

There had been rumour that the Acting President is being put under immense pressure by a ‘cabal’ to quit office owing to the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari in the country.

The President is currently abroad for vacation, which was supposed to expire yesterday, but he wrote to the National Assembly informing the legislative arm of government that he was extending it, though he did not specify for how long more.

Addressing newsmen on Monday shortly after a closed door meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr John Oyegun; President Buhari’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, Mr Babafemi ojodu; and the Special Assistant to the President on Diaspora Matters, Mrs Abike Dabire, the Acting President said he is presently still in charge of governance in Nigeria.

According to Mr Osinbajo, he ran on the same electoral ticket with President Muhammadu Buhari.

He explained that it was as a result of this President Buhari handed over Presidential duties to him when he was leaving for vacation.
