The Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs Cecilia Bolaji Dada, on Tuesday, disclosed that the ministry’s empowerment initiatives are targeted to reach 1,000 beneficiaries across the metropolis.
Speaking at the commencement of the distribution of empowerment equipment to indigent residents at the Skills Acquisition Centre, Ketu, Mrs Dada noted that the initiative is an actualization of the state government’s vision to reduce poverty to the barest minimum among residents.
According to her, residents will be empowered with materials such as grinding machines, sewing machines, hair-dryers, hair clippers with sterilisers, generators, popcorn machines, Sharwama grillers, and toasting machines, amongst others.
She said these would be distributed across Ishogun, Owode-Orile, Araromi, Omojuwa, Ajegunle, and Tapa in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Areas (LCDA.)
Mrs Dada, while urging beneficiaries to make optimal use of the equipment, https://sewingmachinebuffs.com/can-a-tailor-make-pants-waist-bigger/, said that the state government would extend the distribution to four other locations.
The empowerment initiatives were done in collaboration with the Community Development Associations (CDAs), traditional rulers, and the various Local Government and Local Council Development Areas across the state.
Lauding the efforts of the state government put into the program, the Chairman, Ikorodu-West Local Council Development Area, Mr Sulaiman Olarenwaju, also implored beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunity.
The chairman, who was represented by Mrs Oluwatoyin Fayemi, said, “No matter how small this may be, I pray that it will turn around the economic situation of the beneficiaries positively. I believe the government will be happy to see that the opportunity has been used judiciously to improve the economy of the state.”
The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation is the state government ministry charged with the responsibility to plan, devise and implement women education – vocational and functional training, mobilization of women through public enlightenment programmes, and promotion of small-scale industries/commercial activities amongst women groups.
