The management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has lamented that meter bypass and illegal connection were posing the biggest economic threats to the company across its franchise states.

In a statement by the discos’ Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Ibrahim Sani Shawai, it was noted that the company’s Managing Director, Mr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, said meter bypass, illegal connections, amongst others were giving the management sleepiness nights.

Mr Gwamna warned that KEDCO would no longer be lenient with anyone found engaging in meter bypass and illegal connections in its franchise areas.

According to the KEDCO chief, the era of coming to beg using third parties after committing such offences was over, as anyone found will be made to defend himself in court.

Mr Gwamna said the decision of the management was taken to ensure that such an ugly trend does not threaten KEDCO’s efforts at satisfying its numerous customers.

“We have commenced tracking with a view to uncovering any acts of illegal connection and bypassing of meters,” Mr Gwamna added.

He, therefore, appealed to customers to also be prompt in paying bills while supporting KEDCO with vital information to cut down cases of a meter bypass and illegal connections.

KEDCO operates in the northwestern geopolitical zone of Nigeria and generates, distributes and markets electricity in three states.

The distribution company covers the franchise states of Kano, Katsina and Jigawa.
