Workers of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) have shut down the head office of the organisation in Abuja over what is considered a protest against the appointment of Mrs Tola Odeyemi as Chief Executive Officer/Postmaster-General.
Last week, President Bola Tinubu appointed Mrs Odeyemi as the country’s new Postmaster-General in a set of new leadership announcements under the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy.
However, upon the announcement, there were reports that Mr Adeyemi Adepoju, who occupied the position, had been reinstated.
In a video circulating on social media, Mr Adepoju was seen addressing some workers, claiming Mr Tinubu had reappointed him.
On Monday, it was speculated that he had been called by the President as part of efforts to quell the rising issue.
In a twist of event, workers loyal to Mr Adepoju reportedly denied entry to the newly appointed NIPOST CEO to the head office, saying her appointment was against their wishes.
The workers, who said they preferred Mr Adepoju, chanted solidarity songs and wielded placards.
This is a developing story.
