Mr Jimoh Ibrahim has finally been recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 26 gubernatorial election in Ondo State.
Mr Ibrahim, a prominent business in Nigeria with interests in energy, publishing and others, is of the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party.
According to the final list of candidates for the exercise released by INEC on Thursday night, the Commission confirmed that Mr Ibrahim would now be recognised as candidate of the PDP for the next month’s exercise.
It said it relied on a court order delivered earlier on Thursday affirming Mr Ibrahim as the rightful candidate of the poll.
Before now, candidate of the Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party, Mr Eyitayo Jegede, was named by INEC for the poll.
Mr Jegede has the strong backing of the Governor of Ondo State, Mr Olusegun Mimiko.
Also, Mr Alabi Ebenezer Omotayo has been named the running mate to Mr Ibrahim.
