Tinubu Seeks Speedy Consideration of Adamu Aliyu as ICPC Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate to quickly consider the confirmation of the appointment of Mr Adamu Aliyu as Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The President also requested that of the appointment of Mr Saka Bolaji Suleiman and Mr Dantata as members of the Federal Judicial Service Commission was also conveyed in a letter to the Senate President, where Mr Tinubu sought the Senate’s confirmation.

President Tinubu last Tuesday appointed Mr Aliyu, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Jigawa State, as the helmsman of the body while he also appointed Mr Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu as the secretary of the commission.

“The new Chairman of the ICPC is nominated for confirmation by the Nigerian Senate, following the President’s approval of the outgoing Chairman’s request to proceed on pre-end of tenure leave beginning on November 4, 2023, ahead of the expiration of his tenure on February 3, 2024,” the Presidential spokesman, Mr Ajuri Ngelale disclosed in a statement.

According to Mr Ajuri, the appointment was “in furtherance of the Renewed Hope mandate to reform key institutions and invigorate Nigeria’s war on corruption.”

The Senate equally swore in Senator Amos Yohanna representing Adamawa North senatorial district. He is replacing Senator Elisha Abbo recently removed after the court voided the election of Elisha Abbo as senator representing Adamawa North district.
