The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday announced 86 new cases of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.
This is the highest number of cases recorded in a single day so far in the country since its first case was announced on February 27, 2020.
According to the NCDC, the 86 additional cases recorded yesterday have increased the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases to 627.
“As at 11:50 pm of April 19, 2020, there are 627 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria, [with 170 patients discharged after recovery and 21 deaths,] the agency said.
From Business Post’s analysis of the states which recorded the new cases, it was discovered that Lagos had 81.3 percent, Abuja had 8.1 percent, Katsina and Akwa-Ibom States had 3.5 percent each, while the trio of Jigawa, Bauchi and Borno States had 1.2 percent each.
In terms of numbers, Lagos recorded 70 fresh cases, Abuja had 7, Katsina and Akwa-Ibom States had 3 each, while Jigawa, Bauchi and Borno States recorded one case each.
At the moment, Lagos has a total of 376 cases, Abuja has 88, Kano has 36, Osun has 20, Oyo has 16, Edo has 15, Ogun has 12, Kwara has 9, Katsina has 12, Akwa-Ibom has 9, Bauchi has 7, Kaduna has 6, Delta has 4, Ekiti and Ondo have 3 each, Jigawa, Enugu, Rivers and Niger States have 2 each, while Benue, Anambra and Borno States have one each.
