FRSC Deploys Newly Promoted Officers

Following the recently concluded promotion exercise conducted by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) where 36 senior officers were promoted to their next rank, the Corps Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, has approved the posting of the newly promoted officers and others to different formations of the Corps across the country.

According to the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr Bisi Kazeem, this posting is part of concerted efforts by the Corps to ensure proficiency, dynamism and excellence in service delivery to the motoring public.

Speaking further, Mr Kazeem gave the list of the officers posted as: Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM) Julius A Asom, who was formerly the Special Assistant to the Corps Marshal, is now the Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Special Duties and External Relations; Deputy Corps Marshal Kenneth Nwaegbe, former Commandant FRSC Academy Udi, now to head the Motor Vehicle Administration Department at the National headquarters; the former Zonal Commanding Officer, RS12 Bauchi, Deputy Corps Marshal, Shehu Alkali Zaki, is now the Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Administration and Human Resources also at the headquarters of the commission.

Others are Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Ayobami Omiyale formerly Zonal Commanding Officer, Zone RS1HQ Kaduna to RS4HQ Jos as the Zonal Commanding Officer; the head of Number Plate Production Plant, Gwagwalada, ACM Oluwasusi Familoni is now deployed to the national headquarters as ACM National Vehicle Inspection Scheme (NVIS); ACM Angus Ibezim, who was the Sector Commander, Jigawa is now the Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Man Power Development at the headquarters; the Zonal Commanding Officer, RS4HQ Jos, ACM Daniel Sayi, is now deployed as Assistant Corps Marshal Federal Operations; while ACM Jonah I Etuk is to take over as Zonal Commanding Officer RS12HQ Bauchi.

In the same vein, erstwhile Sector Commander, Rivers State, Assistant Corps Marshal Edward A Zamber, has now been deployed as the Commandant FRSC Academy Udi, while ACM Ann Marjah is to take over as Assistant Corps Marshal Administration at the national headquarters.

In addition, the former Commandant, Training School Jos, ACM Aliyu B Datsama, is now deployed as the Zonal Commanding Officer, Zone RS1 Kaduna, while ACM Umar G Ibrahim, the outgoing Sector Commander Kaduna has been deployed as the Zonal Commanding Officer, Zone RS7 Abuja.

Mr Kazeem also gave the list of Officers posted as Sector Commanders as follows: Corps Commander (CC) Ali Sule Tanimu, former Deputy Corps Public Education Officer is now the Sector Commander, Katsina sector command; Corps Commander Hafiz T Mohammed, former head, National Road Safety Advisory Council (NARSAC) is now the Sector Commander RS1.1 Kaduna; Corps Commander Francis Udoma formerly in charge of FRSC Estate, FRSC HQ as Sector Commander RS 9.4 Imo; and the erstwhile Sector Commander RS 4.2 Benue, Corps Commander, David Mendie to replace ACM Edward Zamber as Sector Commander RS6.1 Rivers.

Others are the outgoing Head of Operations, Anambra Sector Command, Corps Commander Uche Winifred Chukwurah, deployed as Sector Commander RS 11.3 Oyo; CC Aliyu Baba now Sector Commander Benue; CC Zubairu Mato is now Sector Commander Kano State; CC SN Orakwe redeployed to Plateau as Sector Commander; CC Frank Okwueze who was formerly heading the Awka production plant has now been made the Sector Commander RS3.3 Taraba; and CC S A Sale deployed as Sector Commander Jigawa.

Also, CC J A Owoade, the erstwhile Corps Commander in charge of Discipline at the national headquarters is now the Sector Commander, Zamfara.

Pursuant to this, the Corps Marshal expressed confidence in the ability of the newly posted officers to deliver as expected.

He therefore charged them to renew their commitment to service and ensure that they uphold the ideals of the Corps at all times.

Mr Oyeyemi also stated that this posting was a reflection of the Corps’ dynamic approach to service and unwavering determination to ensure that the roads were safe for all to use.

Lagos Assembly Names Four New Principal Officers After Obasa Ouster

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Friday named four new principal officers, following the impeachment of the former Speaker, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, on Monday.

Mr Obasa, who was ousted as Speaker in absentia, a position he has held for the last nine years, was replaced by Mrs Mojisola Meranda (APC-Apapa 1).

Mr Obasa was impeached on Monday over alleged gross misconduct by 32 out of the 40 members.

The Clerk of the House, Mr Lekan Onafeko, was also suspended over alleged gross financial impropriety.

The House also dissolved all the standing committees inaugurated by the former speaker.

On Friday, Mrs Meranda, while presiding over plenary as Speaker, said the appointment of new officers arose from the change in the leadership of the House.

“The House has named Mr Temitope Adewale (APC-Ifako-Ijaiye 1) as the new Majority Leader, while Mr Adedamola Kasunmu (APC- Ikeja 1) is the new Deputy Majority Leader.

“This House has also named the Chief Whip, Mr Setonjo David (APC-Badagry 2), while the Deputy Chief Whip is now Mr Babatunde Saani (APC-Kosofe 2),” she said.

Before Mr Obasa’s impeachment, Mr Mojeed Adams was the Majority Leader, while Adedamola Kasunmu was the Deputy Leader.

Mr Mojeed Adams, the new Deputy Speaker, was the former Chief Whip, while Mr Setonji David was the Deputy Chief Whip.

Business Post reports that three lawmakers, primarily Mr Obasa, Mr Adams and Mr Akinsanya, were absent at the first plenary presided over by the new leadership.

CBN Okays Inclusion of Three Directors to Fidelity Bank Board

Fidelity Bank Plc has received the authorisation of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to appoint three directors to its board, a statement from the lender has disclosed.

Business Post reports that the bank picked Mr Abdullahi Sarki Mohammed as an independent non-executive director, Ms Obiaku Augusta Okam as a non-executive director, and Mr Sufiyanu Ibrahim Garba as an executive director, all effective January 14, 2025.

The company disclosed that the three directors were chosen to strengthen its leadership in a strategic move to sustain its impressive performance, as Mr Isa Mohammed Inuwa and Mr Chidi Agbapu retired from the board as an independent non-executive director and a non-executive director, respectively.

The chairman of Fidelity Bank, Mr Mustafa Chike-Obi, in a notice to the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited, welcomed the appointees to the board and looked “forward to leveraging their extensive experience to drive the bank’s strategic objectives and further its growth trajectory.”

Mr Mohammed brings over 36 years of experience in financial services, public administration, and human resources development, having held key leadership and executive roles at prestigious institutions including First Bank of Nigeria Plc and Polaris Bank Limited. His extensive expertise encompasses banking, public service, and business advisory.

On her part, Ms Okam boasts more than 30 years of impressive experience across the banking, financial services, real estate, and retail sectors. Currently the Managing Director/CEO of Skycurve Nigeria Limited, she has held leadership positions at Zenith Bank Plc and Nigeria International Bank Limited (Citibank).

As for Mr Garba, he has over 30 years of multifunctional and cross-border experience at leading financial institutions in Nigeria and the United Kingdom including executive and leadership roles at prestigious financial and non-financial institutions such as Access Bank Plc, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc and Keystone Bank Limited. His career background spans banking, financial services, public service, general management and business origination across a broad range of segments.
