The chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, has resigned from PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
He is leaving the organisation after about two decades. He joined PwC as an associate in 2002 after completing his mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and rose through the ranks of Senior Associate, Assistant Manager, Manager, and Senior Manager, Fiscal Policy Partner and West Africa Tax Leader.
He was recently appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the head of tax reform team. Some critics said his continued stay at PwC would create a conflict of interest, asking him to resign from his paid job or reject the presidential appointment.
On Wednesday, Mr Oyedele announced his resignation from PwC, noting that his action was to allow him to focus on his new appointment.
“After over two decades at PwC, I have made the hard but necessary decision to exit the firm.
“This is to enable me to focus fully with undivided attention on my new role as the Chair of the Presidential Fiscal Policy & Tax Reform Committee, which I consider an important national assignment.
“This decision will also prevent any potential distractions from real or perceived conflict of interest. Thank you all once again for your support, best wishes and prayers.
“May God bless you all, and may God bless Nigeria,” the tax expert said.
Mr Tinubu constituted the tax reform group to address issues of multiple taxes in the system and enhance revenue collection efficiency, ensure transparent reporting, and promote the effective utilisation of tax and other revenues to boost citizens’ tax morale, foster a healthy tax culture, and drive voluntary compliance.
