President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate, seeking confirmation for the appointment of Mrs Ruby Onwudiwe as the Southeast member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
President Tinubu’s request was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Mr Godswill Akpiabio, and read at plenary on Wednesday in Abuja.
Mr Tinubu in the letter said the confirmation request complied with provisions of section 10, sub-section one of the Central Bank of Nigeria Establishment Act 2007.
“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Dr Ruby Onwudiwe as a member of the CBN board of directors.
“The Senate is invited to kindly note that Onwudiwe is a replacement for Mr Kalu Eke, due to the unavailability of Eke for the position.
“It is my hope, therefore, that the senate will consider and confirm in its usual expeditious manner, the appointment of Onwudiwe.
“Please accept the assurances of my highest regards,” Mr Tinubu said.
Recall that the Senate last month disclosed that a nominee for the appointment as a member of the Board of Directors of the CBN, Mr Urum Kalu Eke from Abia State, to represent the Southeast geopolitical zone of the country, rejected his nomination by the President.
He rejected this due to his commitment to the World Bank, which preceded the nomination.
The rejection of the appointment of membership of the CBN Board of Directors by Mr Eke came to the fore as the Senate confirmed the appointment of four other members of the Board of Directors of the CBN, which was forwarded to it by President Tinubu.
Those confirmed by the Senate as directors were Mr Robert Agbede, Mr Ado Yakubu Wanka, Mr Murtala Sabo Sagagi, and Mrs Muslimat Olanike Aliyu.
