Lovers of sports will have the opportunity to watch live broadcasts of the 2024 Olympics to be hosted by Paris, France on DStv and GOtv, MultiChoice Nigeria has confirmed.
The global tournament will kick off with an opening ceremony on Friday, July 26, and a statement from the popular pay-TV platform said it would beam live pictures from the event on DStv channel 203 and GOtv channel 61 from 6:30 pm.
The Executive Head of Marketing for MultiChoice West Africa, Mr Tope Oshunkeye, while announcing the broadcast plan, said DStv and GOtv customers could follow the track and events live across all SuperSport channels.
Business Post reports that 82 athletes will represent Nigeria at the games scheduled to end on Sunday, August 11. About 10,500 athletes are expected to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games, with Nigeria competing in 11 events, including football, basketball, long jump, and weightlifting.
The Super Falcons take part in the women’s football games, with their opening match of group C against Brazil on July 25, at 6 pm.
The team will later face world champions, Spain, on July 28 at 6 pm and round up the group stage against Japan on July 31 at 4 pm. All the matches will be broadcast live on DStv and GOtv, MultiChoice assured.
In the track and field events, Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, Favour Ashe, and Chukwuebuka Enekwech will lead the country, while the female basketball team, D’Tigress, will compete in group B against Australia, Canada, and France.
Speaking on the broadcast of the games, Mr Oshunkeye said, “As part of our commitment to delivering the best sporting action to Nigerians, we will broadcast across SuperSport channels with additional pop-up channels on DStv and GOtv.”
“The Olympics is the largest gathering of athletes competing for honours. We will make the games available to customers on DStv Yanga and GOtv Jolli, offering them the opportunity to watch history unfold and follow our Nigerian athletes at the Games.
“In the spirit of the Olympics, each of the SuperSport channels will also be renamed as Olympic Channel for the duration of the games,” he added.
