Four Price Gainers Lift NASD Exchange by 0.70% in Week One of 2023

The first trading week of 2023 on the floor of the NASD Over-the-Counter (OTC) Securities Exchange ended on a positive note last week due to four stocks.

The quartet of Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) Plc, Friesland Campina Wamco Nigeria Plc, UBN Property Plc, and Air Liquide Plc lifted the NASD exchange by 0.70 per cent in the four-day trading session of the week.

This boosted the market capitalisation of the bourse by N6.47 billion to N938.98 billion from N932.51 billion and raised the NASD Unlisted Securities Index (NSI) by 4.94 points to 714.60 points from the 709.66 points recorded in the last week of 2022.

A look at the performance of the stocks showed that CSCS Plc appreciated by 8.4 per cent to close at N13.50 per share, in contrast to the preceding week’s N12.46 per share, FrieslandCampina rose by 2.4 per cent to N69.00 per unit from N67.38 per unit, UBN Property Plc gained 1.3 per cent to trade at 81 Kobo per unit versus 80 Kobo, and Air Liquide Plc improved by 1.0 per cent to N5.00 per share from N4.95 per share.

However, in the week, the exchange posted a price decliner, Niger Delta Exploration and Production (NDEP) Plc, which fell by 5.4 per cent to N187.04 per share from N197.78 per share.

In the week, there was a 32.5 per cent decrease in the total value of transactions to N116.3 million from N172.3 million, and there was a 67.6 per cent decline in the total volume trades to 341,550 units from 1.1 million units in the previous week, while the number of deals increased by 34.5 per cent to 78 deals from 58 trades in the preceding week.

At the close of the week, VFD Group Plc was the most traded security by volume with 349,456 units. FrieslandCampina WAMCO Plc traded 296,738 units, Nipco Plc exchanged 107,398 units, UBN Property Plc transacted 100,000 units, and CSCS  Plc traded 26,000 units.

In terms of the value of trades in the week, VFD Group Plc also topped with N85.3 million, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc followed with N20.0 million, Nipco Plc posted N6.4 million, NDEP Plc recorded N2.8 million, and 11 Plc raked in N1.2 million.

In the year so far, investors have traded a total of 920,337 units valued at N116.3 million in 78 deals.
