Investors Trade 241m Stocks Via EFG Hermes to Become Most Active Broker

The most active stockbroking company last week was EFG Hermes Nigeria Limited, data from the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has revealed.

The company displaced Chapel Hill Denham, which occupied the same position a week earlier, after transacting 240.5 million stocks in the week, contributing 12.65 per cent to the total trading volume.

The brokerage firm was very busy during the week to the extent that the company on the second spot, Meristem Stockbrokers, could only contribute 6.06 per cent to the total turnover after investors traded 115.2 million stocks through it at the stock exchange.

CSL Stockbrokers traded 98.4 million shares and accounted for 5.18 per cent, while Cardinalstone Securities executed 95.0 million equities and accounted for 5.00 per cent, with Rencap Securities transacting 88.4 million shares and accounting for 4.65 per cent.

In the week, Morgan Capital Securities traded 73.9 million equities and contributed 3.89 per cent to the turnover, Stanbic IBTC traded 73.3 million shares and contributed 3.85 per cent, Cordros Securities exchanged 60.5 million stocks and contributed 3.18 per cent, Chapel Hill Denham Securities transacted 52.0 million stocks and accounted for 2.74 per cent, while Calyx Securities traded 46.5 million shares and accounted for 2.45 per cent.

Business Post gathered from the NSE that these top 10 stockbrokers traded a total of 943.7 million shares in the five-day trading week, accounting for 49.64 per cent of the total turnover for the week.

On the activity chart by value for the week, EFG Hermes Nigeria also claimed the number spot, trading shares worth N4.2 billion and accounting for 19.68 per cent of the total trading value.

Rencap Securities was in the second position after transacting N2.8 billion and accounting for 13.14 per cent. Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers was in third with N2.7 billion (12.90 per cent), CSL Stockbrokers traded N1.0 billion (4.88 per cent), while Cordros Securities exchanged N1.0 billion equities (4.79 per cent).

Furthermore, Cardinalstone Securities traded N762.9 million shares (3.61 per cent, Tellimer Capital transacted N535.6 million stocks (2.54 per cent), Meristem traded N490.9 million equities (2.32 per cent), Chapel Hill Denham Securities executed N432.1 million stocks (2.05 per cent), while ABSA Securities Nigeria traded N404.9 million shares (1.92 per cent).

In the week, investors bought and sold shares worth N14.3 billion through these 10 brokers, accounting for 67.83 per cent of the total trading value.
