The first capital market committee (CMC) meeting of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in 2021 will take place later this week.

A statement issued by the agency disclosed that the 2-day meeting will commence on Thursday, April 15 and will end on Friday, April 16.

According to the circular issued by SEC, the CMC meeting will hold via an online platform with the invited participants, including the Director-General of the commission, Mr Lamido Yuguda, informed of how to access it.

On Friday, the apex regulatory agency in the Nigerian capital market will address the media on the outcome of the gathering.

“The 2021 first Capital Market Committee (CMC) webinar meeting has been scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 15, 2021.

“The usual interface with members of the press will also hold through webinar the following day being Friday, April 16, 2021.

“Attendance at both events is strictly by invitation. All invited participants are expected to be seated by 9.45am,” the disclosure from SEC stated.

Business Post reports that at the meeting, participants will take a look at the recent developments in the nation’s capital market, especially the role of financial technology (fintech) companies in the space.

They will also review the action of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on cryptocurrency, particularly because the prohibition placed on the trading of digital assets in Nigeria by the apex bank came at a time SEC was looking to regulate the sector.
