As electioneering campaigns gain momentum towards the 2019 general elections, Nigerians have been urged to look out for leaders that have the pedigree for entrenching development in the country irrespective of party affiliations.
African Action Congress candidate for House of Representatives, Sapele, Okpe and Uvwie Constituency in Delta State, Prince Omonigho Sadjere stated this during a debate and fundraising dinner in Abuja to officially kick-start his electioneering campaign.
Mr Sadjere who said he is on a restoration mandate for his constituency noted that moneybags and greedy politicians for too long have taken the people and their expectations for granted because they think they can always buy their consciences with money and get away with it.
He advised his constituents to look out for leaders with the right strategies during the campaigns who will bring development to the grassroots.
On the debate as to whether the electorate should choose political party or candidates in 2019, Mr Sadjere called for caution, stressing that the credibility of the candidate irrespective of the party platform is more important.
“President Muhammadu Buhari rode on his integrity to secure a landslide victory in 2015. In fact, if you take away Buhari from the All Progressives Congress today, not many Nigerians will reckon with the party any longer,” he emphasized.
The green chamber hopeful also took a swipe at the Not Too Young To Run Bill signed into law in May this year, pointing out that its provisions limit the potentials of the youth and leave them at the mercy and control of older politicians.
“Those who occupied or ran for office in the first, second and third republics were not caged by age, but simply braved the odds to seek political office.
“In the same vein, the youth of this country should not be cajoled with Not Too Young To Run,” Mr Sadjere stated.
