Farmers Stage Protest in Lagos, Decry N20b Loss

The spate of kidnapping in Lagos especially in Epe local government area of the state is what is giving residents serious concerns particularly farmers, who claimed to have lost over N20 billion investment including ransoms paid to the kidnappers.

This formed the basis of a protest they carried out on Monday at the Governor’s office in Alausa, Ikeja.

They urged Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to do something very fast to nip the situation in the bid.

According to the farmers, who are mainly from the Igbodo and Isiwo communities in Epe, more than 25 of their members have been kidnapped in the last six months.

They urged the Governor tighten security in their communities.

Leader of the group, Mr Ayodele Ore, told newsmen that, “We have had 25 victims kidnapped from different farms located in the area since September 2016 and we have lost over N20 billion investment.”

Addressing the farmers, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Mr Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul, said the state government will put an end to the kidnapping cases in the area.

He said government was concerned in the spate of kidnapping in the state and was working closely with security operatives to arrest the situation.

However, he promised to relate their message to the Governor.
