Nigerian Stock Exchange Records 23 Price Gainers

A total of 23 equities appreciated at the local bourse on Tuesday following the sustained buying pressure during the session, lifting the market further by 0.31 per cent.

Leading the chart was Seplat, which had been battered lately at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). Yesterday, the share price of the company rose by N10.80 to settle at N321 per unit.

Nigerian Breweries grew by N1 to sell for N32 per share, Flour Mills gained 75 kobo to trade at N19.50 per unit, Zenith Bank appreciated by 60 kobo to finish at N16.95 per share, while UAC Nigeria improved by 55 kobo to sell for N6.85 per unit.

At the trading session, 10 stocks were on the losers’ log, with Total Nigeria on the top spot after losing N8.70 to close at N79.10 per share.

CAP went down by N1.70 to finish at N15.40 per share, Ardova depreciated by N1.30 to settle at N12.15 per share, Unilever Nigeria declined by N1.05 to sell for N11.20 per unit, while GlaxoSmithKline fell by 45 kobo to quote at N4.85 per unit.

At the close of transactions, the industrial goods sector declined by 0.03 per cent, while the other major sectors closed positive.

The insurance space grew by 2.70 per cent, the banking counter grew by 1.58 per cent, the oil/gas sector appreciated by 0.23 per cent, while the consumer goods index grew by 0.07 per cent.

Also, the All-Share Index (ASI) appreciated by 75.82 points to 24,841.94 points from 24,766.12 points, while the market capitalisation increased by N39 billion to N12.959 trillion from N12.920 trillion.

The activity level was mixed on Tuesday following the decline in the trading volume by 17.17 per cent, a 10.51 per cent decline in the number of deals and the 11.28 per cent increase in the trading value.

A total of 154.5 million shares worth N1.5 billion were traded in 4,222 deals yesterday as against the previous day’s 186.5 million shares worth N1.3 billion traded in 4,718 deals.

Transcorp shares dominated trading yesterday, transacting 13.5 million units worth N8.1 million, while FBN Holdings traded 11.7 million stocks for N59.2 million.

Also, Lafarge Africa exchanged 9.0 million stocks valued at N105.3 million, Nigerian Breweries transacted 8.9 million stocks valued at N283.8 million, while Custodian Investment exchanged 8.6 million equities worth N43.4 million.
