COVID-19 Cases in Nigeria Hit 1,095 After 114 New Cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday night announced 114 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) reported in the country.

In its daily update on its official Twitter page, the agency said the bulk of the fresh cases of the virus were recorded in Lagos and Gombe States.

According to the NCDC, 80 of the new cases came were reported in Lagos, the nation’s commercial capital, while 21 of them were recorded in Gombe State, a state in the northern part of the country.

The nation’s administrative capital, FCT Abuja, recorded 5 new cases, while 2 each were recorded in Zamfara and Edo States, with one each from Ogun, Oyo, Kaduna and Sokoto States.

The NCDC announced that as at 11:30pm of April 24, 2020, there are 1,095 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. It further said 208 patients have been discharged after recovering from the disease, while 32 fatalities have been recorded in the country since the first case was reported on February 27, 2020.

The agency also disclosed that, “As at April 24, Nigeria has recorded #COVID19 confirmed cases in 27 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“In the last 24 hours, number of new cases increased by 114. Number of deaths increased by one, 5 cases previously recorded in Lagos, are now recorded as Ogun state cases.”

An analysis of the cases in the 27 of the 36 states of the federation revealed that Lagos State leads with 657 cases, followed by Abuja with 138 cases.

Kano has recorded 73 cases, Ogun has 35 cases, Gombe is with 30, Katsina has 21, Osun has recorded 20 cases, Edo has 19, Oyo has reported 18 cases, Borno has 12 cases, Kwara and Akwa Ibom States have reported 11 cases each, Kaduna has 10, Bauchi has 8, Delta has 6, Ekiti has recorded 4 cases, Ondo and Rivers States have 3 cases, while Jigawa, Enugu, Niger, Abia, Zamfara and Sokoto States have reported two cases each, with Benue, Anambra, Adamawa and Plateau recording one case each.
