A notice from the lender said the appointment of Mr Williams was approved at the meeting of the board held last month in Lagos. The appointment followed the exit of Mr Shehu from the position, with Mr Williams taking over effective from Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

“Unity Bank Plc wishes to inform the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), its esteemed stakeholders and the general public that the meeting of the board of directors of Unity Bank Plc held on December 19, 2019 at Plot 42, Ahmed Onibudo Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, approved the appointment of Mr Adejumobi Alaba Williams as the Company Secretary to replace Mr Mohammed Shehu with effect from January 1, 2020,” a part of the statement from the bank said.

It was further stated that Mr Williams is expected to guide the company, especially the board, in ensuring strict compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements, which the lender has fallen short of in the past.

“As the Directorate Head, Company Secretary and Legal Services, Mr Adejumobi Alaba Williams will guide the board of Unity Bank Plc in ensuring strict compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements,” the notice, dated Friday, January 4, 2020, and signed by the Managing Director, Mrs Tomi Somefun, said.

He is also a holder of Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) in 2001. He joined Unity Bank in 2006 and has held several management positions during the period.
