The eventual winner of the 2021 edition of Gulder Ultimate Search (GUS) will go home with over N50 million, the organisers have confirmed.

In a statement made available to Business Post, it was stated that the grand prize includes N20 million cash, a brand new sport utility vehicle (SUV), with other mouth-watering gifts.

It was further stated that apart from the winner, the other GUS contestants will smile home with over N20 million in cash prizes.

A total of 16 persons would be selected for the reality TV show, which is making a return to the television screen after about seven years off-air.

Last week, Nigerian Breweries Plc, which created and sponsors the programme, announced the return of the show, with interested participants asked to begin to send entries from September 1 till Friday, September 10.

The theme for this year’s edition is The Age of Craftsmanship.

It was learned that since entries opened, several Nigerians have registered as Gulder Ultimate Search and Gulder Ultimate Search 2021 are among the popular topics searched on most social media platforms over the last five days, mainly because excited fans are searching for information on how to apply for the reality survival show.

The stories of past winners of GUS who have gone to grab a seat as top stars in the world’s second-largest film industry, Nollywood, is also a source of motivation for many interested applicants.

In its 11-season run, the show discovered several talents who became stars in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Some of the past winners – Kunle Remi (winner of the 2010 edition), Dennis Okike (Season 8) and Chris Okagbue (Season 10) went on to build a successful career in Nollywood.

Interested contestants between 21 and 35 years old have been urged to visit the GUS website www.gulderultimatesearch.ng where they will be required to provide personal details, upload a photograph, a short video and answer a few questions.

Shortlisted applicants will undergo a regional selection process in Abuja on September 14 and 15; and in Enugu on September 15 and 16, while the final selection will take place in Lagos on September 16 and 17, 2021, while the show will run from October 16 to December 19, 2021.

The organisers explained that it made the application window very short to maintain and adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocols in place by relevant health and government institutions.

It was stated that at the regional screenings, applicants will be subjected to physical and mental exercises, swimming and a robust medical examination, which includes but is not limited to the COVID-19 test to ensure they are fully fit.

Those certified medically fit and competent across the required physical parameters will progress to the next phase, while the 16 selected contestants will have insurance cover.

The organisers said security would be top-notch as they have the full complement of all private, public and high tech security agencies who have been mobilized to keep the facility impenetrable and protect the lives and properties of contestants and crew members, adding that the entire sites are fully equipped with an all-round armed team monitoring the CCTV footage round the clock.

Content Creators Must Develop Clear Personal Brand Identity—Nitro 121 Boss

Published

UBA Business Series Content Creators

By Aduragbemi Omiyale

Content creators have been advised to go beyond aesthetics or trends to focus on value, purpose, and agility.

This advice was given by the chief executive of Nitro 121, Mr Lampe Omoyele, during his keynote address at the UBA Business Series held last Thursday at the Tony Elumelu Amphitheatre in UBA Head Office, Marina, Lagos.

At the event themed Content that Converts: Building Influence and Driving Growth Through Strategic Marketing, he said, “You can create something out of what appears to be nothing.”

He also charged content creators to aim to make a difference by developing a clear personal brand identity and remain consistent in delivering messages that resonate with their audience.

The UBA Business Series, held every quarter, brings together some of Africa’s most dynamic digital entrepreneurs and influencers to discuss the secrets behind building impactful online communities.

At this last edition, it featured an impressive line-up of digital entrepreneurs and content creators, including Digital Creator and Actor, Elozonam Ogbolu; Digital Health Educator, Chinonso Egemba (Aproko Doctor); Kenyan Actress and Media Entrepreneur, Catherine Kamau; Content Creator, Nasiru Lawal (Nasboi) and Digital Influencer, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, who was also the moderator of the event.

“For the younger creators here, my best advice is this: please prioritise your growth. As a creator, the moment you become famous, you no longer move at your own pace; you move at the people’s pace. It is therefore important to ensure you grow consistently and then overtime, the recognition and the money begins to roll in,” Nasiru Lawal stated.

Re-echoing this, Elozonam Ogbolu said, “Content creators have to engage their audience with proper storytelling, because brands are always out to carefully choose their creators. For the brands, you must pick your influencer or ambassador very deliberately and work together over time to grow. That is when you will see a proper return on investment.”

In his submission, Chinonso Egemba, said, “If you’re building a business or doing content creation, treat content creation as a business. When you treat it as a business, it needs proper structure. Otherwise, it won’t last. If you don’t put structure in place, you’ll end up responsible for everything, and that leads to burnout. You have to build structure, because if you want longevity, structure is very essential.”

For Catherine Kamau, “What I realized is I have a community that keeps me grounded, and that’s family. When you get famous, you tend to forget where you come from, you know, social media is an illusion and you start assuming that it is your real family until bad things happen to you. So please remember the real people in your life, because fame can get to your head, but those are not the people who are going to have your back when things go south.”

While welcoming the participants, the Group Head of Digital Banking at UBA, Mr Kayode Olubiyi, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to empowering entrepreneurs across Africa through knowledge-sharing and capacity-building initiatives such as the Business Series.

On her part, the Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Ms Alero Ladipo, praised the management of the lender for organising conversations like this because of its positive impact on the economy.

Olohije Oyakhire Launches Visions Film Society in Port Harcourt

Olohije Oyakhire Visions

By Adedapo Adesanya

London Film Academy-trained Nigerian independent filmmaker, Ms Olohije Oyakhire, has founded a film society, Visions, with a mission to spotlight cinema and stories from Africa and Latin America.

Ms Oyakhire believes Visions will create a community of film enthusiasts eager to explore stories that reflect shared histories and cultural intersections.

The society’s ambitions is primarily to augment the decentralisation of film consumption and discourse: be it away from the top film-Woods or even the geographical monotony of Lagos.

The filmmaker told Business Post that Visions would add to the film ecosystem and landscape outside of Lagos, to screen films that are not widely accessible to get at least one more person to see these films, to have discussions and debates about these films, to give creatives a community in this city and majorly everywhere down south.

The choice of Africa and Latin America are not farfetched, these are two regions often overlooked in global film discourse.

Visions, through curated screenings, themed discussions, and supplementary materials, will be looking to further bridge the gap.

“What makes us stand out is that we screen African and Latin American films. From my study I have seen the way both regions have had their post colonial experiences seep into their filmmaking and I think it’ll be very interesting to explore the similarities between the films from both regions,” she told this newspaper.

“Films from the global South are not as widely seen, widely watched and widely accessible. It’s why film scholars such as Solanas and Gentino came up with the Third cinema manifesto in the 60s,” she added.

The inaugural edition of Visions, themed Narratives of Journeys will be hosted in collaboration with Art in the Garden City and Alliance Française, Port Harcourt.

The first screening will feature two titles: Journey Mercies (2023, United Kingdom), a short film directed by Tomisin Adepeju, about a UK-based library cleaner planning a final return to Nigeria, his birth country; and Chez Jolie Coiffure (2018, Belgium/Cameroon), a feature documentary directed by Rosine Mbakam, set in a hair salon in the African Matonge district of Brussels, where customers gossip and share difficult stories of immigration. The selected films explore different perspectives of migration and belonging, resonating deeply with contemporary global realities.

The first edition of Visions is free and open to the public and will take place at Alliance Française, Port Harcourt, on November 15, 2025, at 3 p.m. (Nigerian time).
